Restless Mind Syndrome

When a 45-year-old woman came to the clinic, she reported suffering from insomnia for years.

When her discomfort was questioned in more detail, she mentioned feeling discomfort in her legs when she went to bed at night.

She explained that she only felt relieved when she got up and walked around, and felt the need to move her legs.

This woman was suffering from restless leg syndrome.

A restless mind pulls you away from the present, wandering in the past and future, similar to how it makes this woman walk around to relieve her discomfort at night.

Your mind fears being unable to stop, failing, other people’s opinions, and being alone. This is destroying you.

Your mind insists that you need to keep moving to find relief. Even though you think you are relieved by doing things, you cannot find that peace. You won’t. You haven’t already.

Because no matter how much these actions chase each other, they will exhaust you without an end.

This is not just about you. Everyone experiences this. You are not alone when your mind tries to drag you into worries and fears, to move you quickly by pulling you to the past or the future.

If you want to

Your mind has been judging you until now through the decisions you made, the things you did, and the actions you took. Whether it’s someone else’s advice or your own choice, this has been the case.

Even if you succeed or fail at something, your mind will always find something to talk about in any case.

Without thinking about right or wrong, you can now benefit from every choice you make.

The mind is not your essence, but a tool available to you.

Just as I can write this article right now. I do this through the mind.

We cannot qualify it as good or bad. We can only see its service and benefit from it in different ways.

The Mind Is Not Happy

The mind will continue to play games with you, use what it has learned to its advantage, and talk.

No matter what decision you make when you come to a crossroads, it will not be the right one for the mind.

It will always make the other option more attractive to you.

  • Are you married? It will make singleness attractive to you.
  • Are you divorced? It will make marriage attractive to you.

As we see in restless leg syndrome, the mind will seek comfort outside and constant movement.

The mind’s nature is not to stop and constantly move. Many people talk about getting rid of the mind or emptying it.

The real issue is not to get rid of the mind or throw it away.

“The mind is always a beggar, you cannot get rid of it, but you can understand it. It is always unhappy.” OSHO

All tools have certain times for use.

What needs to be learned here is also to rest the mind.

Because a constantly working mind becomes inefficient and deviates from its goal.

It is a tool that is useful to you, but you did not know how to use it until now.

You can see your mind as a part of you. A tool dedicated to your service and showing hows.

You can use it where you will use your intelligence in this world. You can gain awareness by observing it while taking your steps, words, and actions.

You can conquer yourself with your mind. It is an organ that shows the reflection of your emotions as thoughts. You can use your mind beneficially as you progress.

On the path you are walking, it is important to see the advantages and disadvantages, the points where you will take responsibility, with your mind.

You have set out on a path and there are responsibilities and requirements at some points of this path;

While making this decision,

  • Do you accept the responsibilities and what you will encounter?
  • Do you want it?

No matter what decision you make, your mind will say it would have been better if you chose the other. Stop listening to it.

If you continue to ask these questions a lot, you may tend to think too much. Life is simple.

You had complicated this life until now.

While your mind made you think about the past and future, it only made you suffer where you were.

  • Did it serve any other purpose?
  • Did you manage to change anything?

No.

Meanwhile, after every choice you make, it can mislead and deceive you. Be careful about this too. There is no right or wrong choice. There is your choice.

Until now, you think and get angry at yourself because you did not take this responsibility.

There are only your choices and the reactions and responsibilities brought by these choices.

Liberating From the Mind

We can take the benefits we have gained from these difficulties and leave them. Maybe they strengthened us and brought us our self-confidence. They enabled us to surpass ourselves.

We can understand and do these things the easy way. You know that the mind only wants to disconnect from now and direct you to other things.

This is because it cannot rest and constantly drags you to other points. It makes it seem like there is no other way.

It wants to give you the difficulty and belittles the ease. Because the mind cares about the outside, not you.

It cares more about how the outside sees you than you do. It kills simplicity. Presenting complex things in front of you also destroys you.

You can choose simplicity and beauty in life. Even if it offers you difficult and rocky roads, you can choose the way that seems hard to do but is easy for you.

The difficulty appears there at first. The mind carries both. Because it contains duality.

You can choose the easy one by filtering out the difficult and easy.

Now grasp simplicity and beauty a bit more, find them in the simplest thing. Apply them to your life.

Grasp simplicity and the beauty you see within it.

  • A conversation with someone you randomly meet outside,
  • A meal you cook at home,
  • A book you read calmly,
  • Bird sounds you hear, flowers and insects you see,
  • Yoga practice you do at home or in the studio.

This list goes on and on. Be grateful for all of them.

Because within all this simplicity you see, there are beauties. Even if there is no effort of yours in some, there are beauties under that simple melody.

What Is the Purpose of the Mind?

The mind looks outside for whatever it seeks instead of inside.

  • Approval and words from outside,
  • Happiness is seen elsewhere,
  • Experiences it thinks it cannot reach,
  • Envying other lives.

Looking inside, finding fault with oneself, noticing oneself, and being peaceful in the moment is not in its book.

Because the mind goes back and forth between the past and the future. For it, there is no such thing as the present. It calculates.

True happiness is taking responsibility for these. Transforming what you can within yourself, seeing and tasting the pleasure in everything is in your hands.

When the mind is pulled to one extreme, the other extreme becomes sweet to it.

Are you living in a big city? Don’t worry, after a while, the mind will tell you that rural life is better.

So, is getting rid of the mind the solution? If I said think for a moment? Can you think without the mind?

So, what will we do?

See the places where the mind leaves you as if you were needy.

Notice what you love and adore.

Understand the events that it rushes you into.

Try to stay away from the things you think you need and love for a while.

For example, if you like a meal or a vegetable, take it off the shelf for a while.

Notice the things it rushes you into and makes you do quickly, and take more confident and slower steps.

For example, instead of doing a job in a rush in one day for 8 hours, you can divide it into 3 days.

Because neither too fast nor too slow a pace will satisfy you.

If you move too fast, it will be difficult to do a good job and you will be stressed. If you move too slowly, you might miss the train.
