Dance of Pleasure and Pain

Have you ever thought that pleasure and pain are complementary to each other?

Like most human minds, I preferred pleasure or ease first.

The basis of the mind is to do the most work with the least amount of energy. This is part of our basic survival function. That’s why we tend to choose the easy way.

It is necessary to be a little careful and draw the line carefully when choosing this easy option. In this case, we can hinder and stop our development.

It is beneficial for us to put ourselves in some difficulty and development step by step.

Let’s see, exactly what role does it play in the choice of pleasure and pain in this mind structure and preference mechanism?

If we accept pleasure and pain as a cycle;

The mind, which first sees pleasure, then feels unhappiness, even if there is no pain and it returns to normal because falling after going through a high level of pleasure, comfort or happiness makes him feel unhappy.

Let’s continue with 2 examples for this topic;

  • Let’s imagine we are eating chocolate. There is a possibility of feeling guilty after eating a whole chocolate bar. We can say that the pleasure chosen at first is a pain that comes later.
  • Looking at it from the opposite perspective, even if we don’t want to go for a run, we feel vigorous and accomplished after going for it. After the pain chosen at first, pleasure came.

As long as the mind continues to make choices, this cycle of pleasure and pain continues to exist. When we take ourselves out of the equation, that’s when we rise above it.

If we can focus from the top of the mind from the part to the whole, we will see that the two come together. The mind continues to deceive and present it as something one-sided.

It is like someone living in a very crowded city wants to settle in a village, while someone living in a village wants the liveliness of the city.

You see photos and videos about the village. You desire yourself there. The mind thus hooks you into the future. Assuming that you move to the village after you get used to it there, you will want to move a little more and move to the city.

This works like this until you put a stop to this mechanic.

The mind makes choices and always chooses trouble

Reflection of Past and Future

He tries to build a future in his mind according to what he has learned in the past and his inferences. It makes everything look rosy by dragging you somewhere else in the future. It distorts the present moment into a form that does not look good and causes complaints.

Unless you accept the past, learn its lessons, and gain a new perspective, the captivity of the mind continues.

In this case, all we have is the “moment” that belongs to us and only us. The times we meet in the moment, our work, our environment, and the time we spend with our family belong to us. Being effortlessly in the moment gives us pleasure.

As he begins to get rid of the fear of the past, he also begins to get rid of the anxiety of the future. Here, fear creates anxiety. When we cut the root, the branches already fall.

That’s why we work on awareness and intend to cherish our moment. The more we are in this moment, the more deeply we feel life.

We can digest the lessons of the past and thus make room for beautiful and new potentials in the future.

Take a look over your mind

What we call getting rid of the cycle of pleasure and pain or being free from pain happens by getting free from pleasure.

One is inevitably present and the other is not. If we don’t have to make a choice, it would relieve us to see what we call pleasure and pain or other frivolous poles living together.

Because we know what is coming, we are mentally prepared for it.

When we think about the day cycle, firstly there is movement and abundance during the day, then relaxation comes at night.

From here, we can determine the things to be done, requests, and actions during the day and be in that comfort at night.

If we deal with unwanted and difficult issues, which we call pain, from the beginning, we gain experience, and then everything comes to us as a reward. Thus, the feeling of accomplishment increases.

A wise person will choose pain in the beginning and pleasure in the end, because pain in the beginning will give you the basis for experience and then pleasure will be more pleasing than ever.

OSHO

Pleasure and pain sit on the seesaw.

Whichever one touches the ground first gets up and the other one is experienced.

Listen to your actions

How can we listen to our actions here on the mind?

  1. When you attempt to initiate an action, remember that you have the power to stop it!
  2. Does the beginning of this action directly indicate pleasure?
  • If the action directly points to pleasure, you create regret, guilt, or a place where you squeeze yourself.
  • If you do not want to start the action or your feet are moving backward, happiness, success, or a good feeling comes at the end of the action.
  1. Your range of action starts right here. To be able to stop the movement that has started.
  2. Too much dopamine, too much food, and too much sugar consumption all start with the first step.
  3. Realizing this and stopping the first step will be the most useful thing.
